Question: Do I need Olympic qualities?
Answer: You DO NOT need to be strong. A common misconception as training equipment is there to get you going not to stain or hurt you. We want you to enjoy archery and can cater for all shapes and sizes.
Question: I will not hit anything!
Answer: Of course you will, at least after a bit of practise and even the best miss sometimes! The IFAF has a training schedule to get you shooting quickly (10-15 mins) and hitting the target. And don’t feel under any pressure to perform up to standards in a competitive environment, because that it ain’t. Most people are just friendly folks sharing an interest in an old skill.
Question: Will I like it?
Answer: Don’t get disheartened. Archery is easy to do but like all sports and pastimes it takes time to be good. Perseverance, practice and enjoyment will get you to championships in due time. Or you stay back with the other folks out here in the woods that just want to have a good time and don’t care one bit about competitions. It is entirely up to you, what route your career as an archer will take.
Question: Can I bring the kids?
Answer: It is usually the other way around. If you would like your child or children to take up the sport, you will need to transport them and be mainly responsible for them at practices and events. In other words, if you don't want to be bored silly, you take up archery yourself! In general children can take up archery from the age of 7 to 8 years.
Question: Is it difficult?
Answer: Listen, watch, and ask. If you’re not sure about something ask someone. All of us like to talk archery and most will be glad to pass on information, hints, tips and ideas. If we don’t know we usually know someone that does.
Question: Is it safe?
Answer: Yes it is. From your first meeting with your instructor safety is of the utmost importance. After a while it becomes second nature and archery accidents are extremely rare because of this.
Question: Is it expensive?
Answer: You could ask how long is a piece of string? It’s as expensive as you want to make it. Basic bows start at around €130 and the sky is the limit. Arrows start around € 7 each, slightly cheaper if you are prepared to build (= assemble) them yourself. Tabs and bracers are € 5-10 each (you’ll have to come along to find out what they are!)
Question: When do I have to join?
Answer: That is your own decision and mainly depends on how quickly you get hooked. We would like to get a commitment after 3-4 sessions due to insurance considerations.
